Our Shaykh The Allaamah Muhammad Ibn Alee Ibn Aadam Al-Etiyoobi (may Allah preserve him) mentioned in his explanation of Hadeeth #2217 of Saheeh Muslim:
A man came to the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam and said: Indeed my brother is having a stomach ailment. The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam said: "Give him honey." So he gave him honey. Then he came to him again and said: Indeed I gave him the honey and it didn't increase him except in stomach pains. He said it to him three times. Then he came the fourth time and He said to him: "Give him honey." The man said: I indeed gave him the honey and it didn't increase him except in stomach pain. The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam said in response: "Allah has spoken the truth and the stomach of your brother has lied." So he gave him the honey and he (the brother) became cured.
The Shaykh said commenting (on this narration): "Indeed the Ulamaa have stated that he repeated giving him the honey because it didn't benefit him right away from the first time (he took it). That's because the sickness that was in him was severe and staunch. So in every time (the honey was given) the honey was decreasing the sickness and its causes by the permission of Allah until the sickness lightened and he became cured from it completely."
