Shaykh Usaamah ibn Sa'ood al-'Amree stated:
I remember about ten years ago, I was with Shaykh Rabee and Ali Ibn Hasan al-Halabi and (Saleem) al-Hilaali were present. Shaykh Rabee was advising them both. Ali was mentioning to the Shaykh the narration of Umar رضي الله عنه:
Don't think evil about a statement that has come from your brother when you can find for it (a meaning) which is good.
Our Shaykh said to him: "I refute you with that which is in al-Bukhaari on the authority of Umar رضي الله عنه :"
Whoever has outwardly shown us good, we take him as being trustworthy and we bring him near (to us). We have nothing to do with his intentions/that which he holds within himself. Allah will take him to account (for that which is within his heart). And whoever outwardly shows us evil, we don't trust him nor do we believe him, even if he says that which is within him is good.
