As-salaamu 'alaykum virtuous shaykh Usamah al-Utayby, may Allah preserve you from every evil and bless you. I have a question: is there something in the sunnah for disciplining a teenager, other than the legislative 10 beatings?

Shaykh al-Utayby's حفظه الله response:

Wa alaykumus-salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. The Prophet ﷺ prohibited beating more than 10 lashes except in the legislative punishments of Allah and this is for those who have the authority. And it's not conditional, but permissible when there's a need. Be careful not to beat to discipline your child and therefore eventually end up in prison!

Sorry, may Allah bless you shaykh. Is this beating even for a teenager? If so, until what age?

Shaykh al-Utayby حفظه الله:

It isn't restricted with age, and not (only) specific for the father with his children. Even the amir and the sultan (can beat him in an Islamic country) and (more) importantly (the determining factor is) the ability to obtain the intended (result) with disciplining and that it doesn't result in a greater harm.

May Allah bless you. I ask Allah that he makes it weigh heavy on your scale.
