When it is said to them believe in that which Allah revealed, they say: We believe in which has been revealed upon us and they disbelieve in that which is after it although it is the truth confirming that which is with them [al-Baqarah:91]
This is after He said:
although aforetime they had invoked Allah (for the coming of Muhammad ﷺ) in order to gain victory over those who disbelieved [al-Baqarah:89]
Allah describes the Jews who - when the eloquent Prophet (who spoke with the truth) came to them from other than the group they desired, they didn't submit to him (i.e., the truth that he came with). Indeed they only accept the truth from the group that they are ascribed to and they do not follow that which their creed mandates them to follow. Many of those who are ascribed to a specific group regarding knowledge or religion from the jurists and the mutasawwifah (soofees) have been afflicted with this. They only accept from the religion that which has come from their group, even though the deen of Islam obligates following the truth with respect to narration and understanding unrestrictedly, without specifying a person or a group other than the Messenger (who the truth has come from).
